PACTH Qualified Instructor Training Program (PQI)

The Pennsylvania Qualified Instructor Training Program (PQI) is designed to be a part of a therapeutic riding instructor's education and certification process.  Certification is offered at three levels:  Instructor-in-Training, Instructor and Master Instructor.

It is impossible to provide all of the information and practical application required to become a certified therapeutic riding instructor over the course of Phase I and Phase II (5 and 4 days, respectively).  It is expected that the Instructor Level Candidate should already possess a base knowledge of horses, riding, disabilities and teaching.

Therapists, program administrators, medical professionals, riding instructors and other interested individuals whose goal is to increase their knowledge about therapeutic riding will find the Instructor-in-Training Level a good source for continuing their education.

Instructors who have accumulated sufficient teaching hours and possess a broad-based level of knowledge who are interested in becoming the "teachers-of-the-teachers" may want to pursue the Master Level certification.

The PACTH issues the Pennsylvania Qualified Instructor Certificate to individuals who have successfully completed the PQI Training Phases I and II and achieve a passing score on the Phase III evaluation -- an "on-site" evaluation conducted by a team of PQI evaluators at the instructors own program.
